Hiking to Garibaldi Lake
I do the majority of my hiking solo. I love early starts, big days, and moving at my own pace.
I met Del at my home climbing gym and we ended up doing a couple of hikes together while she lived in the Vancouver area for a few months. Del invited me to join her and a few of her friends on a hike to Garibaldi Lake. I’d only been up to Black Tusk in this zone before, so I happily agreed.
Since I don’t hike in groups very often, there was a lot that went differently than my usual solo hikes. We didn’t all meet up and start hiking until after noon and there were a lot more short little breaks than I normally take.
But there was also so much more conversation! More laughs! More groups snacks to share! It was a really nice change of pace (no pun intended) to hike with a great group of people.
As for Garibaldi Lake itself, once we got past the infamous switchbacks, the hike was stunning! Going in early June meant that we had both warm weather and snow up at the lake. The views of the lake and the mountain range were amazing, and we enjoyed a long break to eat lunch and take photos.
